With the New York Knicks mired in a nine-game losing streak and off to a 3-13 start, Carmelo Anthony admits he considers his team the "laughingstock" of the NBA.
As the Knicks prepare to face cross-borough rival Brooklyn on Thursday night in a nationally televised game on TNT, Anthony told the New York Daily News "there's nothing to hide."
The All-Star forward later added "do I like being laughed out? Hell no. I don't like that feeling. But it's not about TNT and them guys mocking us... they got to do their jobs and we've got to win. That's the only thing I'm focused on."
At 3-13, the Knicks have the second worst record in the Eastern Conference, but at 5-13 the Nets aren't far behind. Following Tuesday night's blowout home loss to Denver, Nets coach Jason Kidd summed up the current state of both franchises by stating "we both stink."
The Knicks are still without starting center Tyson Chandler, recuperating from a broken leg and only recently welcomed point guard Raymond Felton back from a hip injury.
Without Chandler anchoring the middle, the Knicks defense ranks near the bottom in practically every statistical category.During last Sunday's 103-99 loss to New Orleans, second-year guard Iman Shumpert was captured on video screaming at Anthony over a blown defensive assignment.
