It is only his first major win, but Wyndham Clark believes his US Open victory is a testament that he is up there with future greats.

The Denver-based golfer captured the US Open in Los Angeles, a month after he ruled the Wells Fargo Championship.

Clark said the major victory proves he can go toe-to-toe with the best golfers worldwide, a feeling he's had even before anybody heard of him.

"It's gone faster than I thought as far as just starting to do some stuff mentally that I've never done before, but I feel like I'm one of the best players in the world," the 29-year-old said after the victory.

"Obviously this just shows what I believe can happen."

The 13th-ranked Clark edged former World no. 1 Rory Mcllroy. He also left in his wake several marquee players like current World No.1 Scottie Scheffler and British Open champion Cameron Smith.

His victory means the US Open is ruled again by an American after being captured by England's Matt Fitzpatrick (2022) and Spain's Jon Rahm (2021).

Clark is trending in the right direction

Clark has only played for six majors in his career, and his best finish was 75th. This is why many were left stunned by this surge by the 29-year-old.

However, for Clark, what happened in the US Open was the culmination of his hard work.

"I've come close, and obviously, everyone sees the person that hoists the trophy, but I've been trending in the right direction for a long time now. I've made a lot of cuts. I've had a handful of top 10s and top 20s, and I feel like I've been on a great trajectory to get to this place.''
