New York Yankees reliever Jimmy Cordero will miss the remainder of the season after being suspended by the league for domestic violence allegations.

The league said he was punished for joint domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse policy.

The league, however, did not release specific details regarding the violations committed by the 31-year-old pitcher.

Cordero himself did not refute the punishment.

"Commissioner Robert D. Manfred Jr. announced today that following an investigation, New York Yankees pitcher Jimmy Cordero has accepted a suspension for the remainder of the 2023 Championship Season and Postseason," the MLB Office of the Commissioner said in a statement.

In line with this, Cordero will have to undergo a confidential and comprehensive evaluation and treatment program supervised by the Joint Policy Board.

Yankees show support for the decision

New York Yankees also refused to give out any details regarding the issue but threw their support for the decision made by MLB.

"The Yankees are fully supportive of Major League Baseball's investigative process and the disciplinary action applied to Jimmy Cordero," the team said in a press release.

There is no justification for domestic violence, and we stand with the objectives, standards, and enforcement of MLB's joint domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse policy."

Cordero joined the Yankees this year. He was without an MLB team from 2021 before his current team and was only playing for a minor league contract.

He has seen considerable playing time this season, posting a 3.86 ERA and 1.071 WHIP with 34 strikeouts and 10 walks in 32 2/3 innings.
