(Photo : Ethan Miller/Getty Images) LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - Victor Wembanyama (#1) of the San Antonio Spurs claps his hands as he walks on the court during a break in the second half of a 2023 NBA Summer League game against the Portland Trail Blazers at the Thomas & Mack Center on July 09, 2023 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Victor Wembanyama wants to go back to what he truly is at his core -- a basketball player.

The most anticipated prospect of this generation has been dealing with a lot of stuff beyond the court since getting drafted by the San Antonio Spurs as the first overall pick last month.

Media appearances, countless interviews, promotional events, and a bizarre incident with pop star Britney Spears were some of the things that the Frenchman faced outside of the court. All of these have led the 7-foot-3 unicorn to ask his agent to prioritize basketball first and slow down everything.

"I want to be on the court and play basketball. I don't want to do all this. It's part of the business, but basketball first," the 19-year-old confessed to his agent Bouna Ndiaye.

After a poor showing during his Summer League debut last Friday, Ndiaye canceled some commitments for Saturday to allow his client's body to rest and recover.

Victor Wembanyama to miss rest of Summer League

After playing two games, the Spurs are shutting down their prized rookie for the rest of the Summer League to give him a well-deserved rest after a busy 12 months.

Wembanyama also opted not to join the French national team in the FIBA World Cup in Asia to prepare himself for his first NBA season.

"In the past month, I think basketball wasn't even 50% of my schedule. I can't stand it. I know it's a special moment in my life, but I'm glad it's over," the Frenchman said after last night's Summer League game.
