Romelu Lukaku and Inter Milan made the most of the player's loan transfer last football season, and it should not be a surprise he stays there next season.

That was the plan for the Italian club, but a wind of change occurred.

Reports have it that Inter Milan, which won Coppa Italia and reached the finals of the Champions League in 2023, have decided to drop their pursuit of the Belgian striker.

The decision was made after he and Juventus allegedly discussed a different deal. Lukaku also went AWOL, leaving Inter and Chelsea hanging.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reported that talks between Lukaku and his latest team were "a mess" due to the entry of Juve.

It added that manager Simon Inzaghi and Lukaku no longer have a relationship, with the benching during the loss to Manchester City being the last straw on the player's part.

What was Juventus' offer?

Inter Milan offered to sign Lukaku permanently by paying the $39 million transfer fee.

Juventus countered with $49 million plus $3.2 million in add-ons. The deal will happen only if Juve offer Dušan Vlahović to the Blues.

Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly hoped he could get $40 million for Lukaku.

Last year was not Lukaku's first stint with Inter. He was previously sold to Inter by Chelsea for $128 million.

He appeared in 25 games for Nerazzurri last season and scored 10 goals.

Lukaku will not travel with the team to the USA, but the team expects him to join training next week. However, the priority now is to sell him at a price Boehly expects.
