The Minnesota Vikings are looking to end their struggles in rushing yards this season by acquiring running back Cam Akers from the Los Angeles Rams, according to league insider Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The Vikings will get the 24-year-old and a conditional 2026 seventh-round pick in exchange for a conditional 2026 sixth-round pick, which goes to the Rams.
The team currently possesses the lowest rushing yards in the NFL this season, totaling just 69 yards, the fewest after two games after the 2019 Miami Dolphins and 2019 Cincinnati Bengals, per ESPN Stats & Info.
Minnesota remains the only team without a rush attempt of 10 yards or more this season.
They have executed only 23 rushing attempts by their running backs, opting to concentrate their offensive strategy primarily on the passing game, which has yielded the second-highest yards in the NFL at 674.
This decline comes after they parted ways with their previous starting running back, four-time Pro Bowl selection Dalvin Cook, and promoted their long-serving backup Alexander Mattison.

Cam Akers previously requested a trade
After being disappointed with his reduced role on offense, the former Florida State player requested a trade out of Los Angeles in October 2022.
Akers was selected by the Rams in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft with the 52nd overall pick.
He played in the Super Bowl LVI, wherein he had 13 rushing attempts for 21 rushing yards and three receptions for 14 receiving yards as the Rams won 23-20 over the Cincinnati Bengals.
