The Chicago Bears announced the resignation of defensive coordinator Alan Williams from the team on Wednesday, September 20, effective immediately.

Williams cited health and family concerns for his abrupt departure from the team.

"I am taking a step back to take care of my health and my family. I appreciate the opportunity to work with the Chicago Bears, a storied NFL franchise with a rich history," the coach said in a statement.

Williams plans to return to coaching in the future. He has worked with various teams in the league since 2001, mostly on the defensive side of the ball, either as a defensive assistant, defensive backs coach or defensive coordinator.

He joined the Bears before the start of the 2022 NFL season.

The 53-year-old did not travel with the team to Tampa Bay for their Week 2 game against the Buccaneers, which resulted in a 27-17 loss last Sunday, September 17.

Unverified rumors set the internet ablaze

The reason was initially undisclosed when the news of Williams' resignation first came. This caused a rumor to swirl on social media.

The unverified gossip claimed police raided Halas Hall, the team's headquarters, in connection to Williams.

The team debunked the rumors after officially announcing Williams' resignation, saying that their headquarters was not subject to a raid and that there was no police involvement regarding their outgoing defensive coach.
