The San Antonio Spurs have secured one of their promising cornerstone young players for the foreseeable future.

Devin Vassell has reportedly agreed to a five-year contract extension worth $146 million to remain in San Antonio, according to league insider Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

The former Florida State standout averaged career highs in multiple facets of his game last season, putting up 18.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 3.6 assists while shooting 43.9 percent from the field. His scoring average rose from 12.3 ppg in 2021-22 and 5.3 ppg in his rookie year.

The deal is the largest contract in franchise history and the first to surpass the $100 million mark, overtaking Kawhi Leonard's previous record of a 5-year, $94.3 million contract signed in 2015.

The 23-year-old guard is the sixth player from the 2020 draft class to secure a rookie-scale extension.

Notably, Minnesota Timberwolves' Anthony Edwards, Charlotte Hornets' LaMelo Ball, and Indiana Pacers' Tyrese Haliburton secured max extensions worth up to $260 million each over the summer.

Additionally, Memphis Grizzlies' Desmond Bane signed a five-year, $207 million contract, while Detroit Pistons' Isaiah Stewart inked a four-year, $64 million pact.
