Several former FC Barcelona players, including the club's greatest player ever, Lionel Messi, moved to MLS club Inter Miami during the summer of 2023.

Midfielder Sergio Busquets and left-back Jordi Alba had also decided to move to the Fort Lauderdale-based squad, and they will soon be joined by Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez, making him the fourth player from the Blaugrana club to don the pink threads of Inter Miami.

The four played together and were key starters for Barcelona from 2014-15 to 2019-20, accounting for a UEFA Champions League triumph and the continental treble during the 2014-15 season.

Let us take a deep dive into the former FC Barcelona players who are now playing for Inter Miami.

Luis Suarez

Although not yet formally announced by Inter Miami, various sources have confirmed that Suarez will be joining the team this winter once his contract with his current club, Brazilian side Gremio, concludes by the end of the year.

The Uruguayan striker arrived in Barcelona during the summer of 2014 and secured the European Golden Shoe in 2015-16, a remarkable achievement considering the goalscoring peaks of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo during that time, making it one of the most noteworthy feats in the sport.

Suarez departed Barcelona in 2020, ranking as the club's third all-time leading goalscorer, with 198 goals.

The 36-year-old has reportedly agreed to a one-year contract with a second-year option with Inter Miami.

Jordi Alba

The Spanish left-back was already part of Barcelona's youth academy in 1998 but was released by the club in 2005 after being deemed too small.

The 34-year-old went on to play for Spanish clubs Cornella and Valencia before making a triumphant return to Camp Nou as a senior player in 2012, a reward for his impeccable work ethic.

Alba went on to become one of the best left-backs of his generation, and he just recently left Barcelona during the past summer, albeit unexpectedly, to help reduce the debt-ridden Barca's wage bill.

Sergio Busquets

The Spanish defensive midfielder is undoubtedly one of the all-time greats in his position, with Barcelona's distinctive style ingrained deeply within him.

Busquets initially joined Barcelona's youth academy, La Masia, in 2005, gradually progressing through the ranks until he became a crucial figure in the club's dynasty during the 2010s.

Having spent his entire professional career at Camp Nou, the 35-year-old remained with the club until 2023, departing alongside Jordi Alba en route to Inter Miami after their contribution to securing the 2022-23 La Liga title.

Lionel Messi

Arguably the greatest football player of all time, Messi entered Barcelona's youth academy, La Masia, as a 13-year-old in 2000 after the club promised to pay for the treatment of his growth hormone deficiency.

This investment ultimately proved immensely valuable, as the young Argentine displayed early signs of his exceptional talent on the field. By 17, even the seasoned Ronaldinho recognized that Messi would become one of the game's all-time greats.

As we all know, Messi delivered every bit of the expectation and then some. He claimed several Barcelona records, including the club's all-time leading goalscorer and assist provider, amassing an unbeatable total of 672 goals and 303 assists.

The 36-year-old abruptly departed the Catalan club in 2021 amidst financial constraints that prevented Barcelona from renewing Messi's contract, prompting his transfer to the French club Paris Saint-Germain.

Following a two-season stint in France's Ligue 1 and a victory in the 2022 FIFA World Cup with Argentina, Messi opted for a more relaxed lifestyle, choosing to move to Inter Miami in the recent summer.
