The Kansas City Chiefs are targeting to become the back-to-back Super Bowl champions, a feat that only eight NFL teams have so far done.
Given their performance this 2023-24 NFL season, the Chiefs seemed primed to do so. They have a good quarterback in Patrick Mahomes, and Andy Reid has proven to be the best of the crop so far, per SI.com.
And while the Chiefs have won the AFC West for consecutive seasons and hosted the past five AFC title games, it all boils down to one question - who will challenge them for the Lombardi trophy?

With a talented lineup led no less by two-time NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes, whoever stands in their way will be in for a tough outing. Most teams giving chase are equally good, if not better, such as their chief rival, the Philadelphia Eagles and the San Francisco 49ers, per The Athletic.
The Eagles and the Niners are slightly ahead in the Super Bowl odds race, each with a +400. The Chiefs are given a +450 odds as of this writing.
Of course, it would also be foolish to discount other NFL teams. That list includes the Baltimore Ravens, Miami Dolphins, Dallas Cowboys, Detroit Lions and the Indianapolis Colts.
It all boils down to how the NFL playoffs will pan out for the Chiefs and the rest of the NFL heap. Here are some potential concerns that the Chiefs must consider if they are primed to repeat as Super Bowl champs.
1. Chiefs cannot afford to be complacent
As things stand now, the Chiefs own an 8-3 win-loss record in the AFC West. The Dolphins and Jaguars tote similar slates, with the Ravens only a win ahead with a 9-3 record.
It all starts by wrapping up their regular season assignments and ensuring they continue their dominance, starting with the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, December 3. Kansas City is a 7-point spread favorite to prevail over the Packers, per the Action Network.
But that is just the start of a six-game stand that the Chiefs must hurdle. If they want to stay the course, they cannot afford to let their guard down as these teams have their agenda entering the NFL homestretch.
2. Chiefs must not lose motivation for back-to-back Super Bowls.
Mahomes said before the season started at training camp that the Chiefs remain as motivated as ever to repeat as Super Bowl champions via ESPN's Adam Teicher.
This stems from their last Super Bowl triumph, admitting that being a winner was a different feeling.
"You should be motivated to do it... You only get those opportunities by winning the Super Bowl. And so for us, we want to make sure that we can build up and try to win that Super Bowl again because that moment, that feeling is something that you just want to grab every single time that you get the opportunity to do it," Mahomes stated.
While that has shown so far this season, that flame needs to remain. The NFL playoffs are another animal they will have to hurdle, the time when most teams step up their game.
3. Chiefs need to play wisely and avoid surprises such as injuries.
To win the Super Bowl, Reid will need all hands on deck. Thankfully, most of their regulars appear healthy, although anything can happen moving forward.
Kansas City should be fine if Reid has his main players healthy heading into the NFL postseason. However, they should also avoid being complacent and overconfident against teams coveting a Super Bowl plum.
It won't be easy, but the Chiefs know what it takes to win the Lombardi Trophy. The task remains the same, and they have to keep that same level of focus if they are to make it back-to-back Super Bowls and enter the NFL record books.
