Ferrari Debutant Oliver Bearman Shares Reaction After Being Told to Stand-in for Carlos Sainz Jr.

Formula 2 Prema Racing driver Oliver Bearman will make his unexpected Formula 1 debut for Scuderia Ferrari at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix on Saturday, March 9, at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The 18-year-old, who serves as a reserve driver for Ferrari and Haas, will replace Carlos Sainz Jr., who has been sidelined due to appendicitis.

The Englishman shared his initial reaction upon being informed that he would be driving for the Prancing Horse team.

"I honestly did not have time to get nervous. I woke up this morning fully prepared for my F2 race and I got the call late in the day, just a few hours before FP3 that I would be doing it," Bearman said.

Bearman also expressed that, given the circumstances, it wasn't how he would have wished to make his Formula One debut. He extended his best wishes to Sainz, hoping for a swift recovery, but acknowledged that this unexpected opportunity is a significant moment in his career.

Max Verstappen praises Oliver Bearman

Red Bull driver Max Verstappen has commended Bearman for his impressive performance in qualifying, securing the 11th position.

The Dutchman particularly acknowledged the challenging nature of the Jeddah track, which is difficult to adapt to, especially with minimal Formula 1 experience.

"I think what he has done has been very impressive. I was watching his first few laps in FP3, because that's where you can judge if someone is a bit comfortable or not in the car. And by lap two, lap three, I was like: 'Okay, that's a strong start'. I like to see that," the three-time F1 world champion said.
