Texas Coaching Rumors: Jon Gruden A Candidate To Replace Mack Brown Leading Longhorns? [VIDEO]

John Gruden has emerged as a candidate to replace Mack Brown as coach of the Texas Longhorns, according to CoolegeFootballTalk.com.

According to CollegeFootballTalk, "high-level source" Orangebloods.com reports "Gruden is open to hearing from the Texas athletic department about its football head coaching vacancy."

While admitting there has been no formal contact between Gruden and university officials, the source added "it's no secret that every major position that comes open stirs Gruden rumors. The reason why the talks never go anywhere is because there are definitely two, maybe three, situations he's always said he would have to listen to. When Texas calls, you gotta listen."

During the USC coaching search, Gruden named was also floated as a potential candidate, but reports later indicated Gruden had decided to either remain in the ESPN broadcast booth or await another opportunity at the NFL coaching level.

Gruden last coached in the NFL for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and at the collegiate level as a wide receivers coach at Pittsburgh. Besides Gruden, Jim Harbaugh, Mike Tomlin and Louisville's Charlie Strong are other high-profile coaches that have been rumored to be linked to the job opening.
