Just when everyone thought that Tyreek Hill would be traded because of his cryptic post, the rumored trade did not happen. However, there's another rumor that the Miami Dolphins might trade Jalen Ramsey, but there's one thing that is holding back other teams from acquiring him.
One of the most sizzling NFL storylines of the offseason is the unclear status of the star cornerback. Speculation is increasing on whether the seven-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro is going anywhere after the June 1 salary cap deadline.
Why June 1 Is Key to a Jalen Ramsey Trade
Post-June 1 is a key juncture for the Dolphins. If Miami does trade Ramsey, the team would be able to stretch his $25.2 million dead cap hit over the 2025 and 2026 seasons. According to Athlon Sports, that would provide much-needed flexibility rather than taking it all in 2025 in one chunk. It's a fiscal approach the team can consider seriously, particularly if it wishes to rebuild or make room for up-and-coming players.
Ramsey fueled the fire most recently with a mysterious tweet on social media, continuing to hint at potential changes on the horizon. The future of the cornerback is unsure, but the hype over it definitely isn't.

What's Stopping Teams from Trading for Ramsey?
Even with his strong resume and playmaking skills, Jalen Ramsey isn't quite attracting a waiting list of suitors currently, and one reason is his large $21 million guaranteed 2025 salary.
Even if teams adore what Ramsey can bring to the field, his contract is a hard pill to swallow in a cap-conscious league.
As ESPN NFL analyst Peter Schrager says, "Someone's going to have to take at least some of that guaranteed money, a big bulk of that, and the Dolphins are not going to trade him for 30 cents on the dollar."
That makes a trade difficult unless Miami is willing to take on some of the fiscal headaches or comes across a desperate contender.
Will the Los Angeles Rams Get Ramsey Back?
One of Ramsey's old teams, the Los Angeles Rams, has been proposed as a possibility. Ramsey was an integral member of the Rams' Super Bowl LVI championship, and his stay in LA was underscored by on-field excellence and off-field respect.
Nonetheless, Schrager ended reunion discussions on "The Pat McAfee Show," explaining that the Rams won't likely target him again, given their roster trajectory and cap space issues now. Despite mutual love, a return to Los Angeles seems unlikely.
Would Ramsey Remain With the Dolphins?
With no apparent trade partners and a gaudy salary on the books, the most probable short-term scenario could be that Ramsey remains in Miami, at least until training camp in July.
If Miami is willing to negotiate the dollars, there might be some changes over the summer. This could be the perfect time to move Ramsey smoothly.
