The Cleveland Cavaliers might not give another chance to its much-guarded core to prosper further as a rumored trade might soon be announced.

Following an impressive 64-win regular season under new head coach Kenny Atkinson, the team's early postseason elimination at the hands of the Indiana Pacers proves that there might be something wrong with its roster.

Cavs Fall Short Again Despite Regular Season Success

Cleveland's front office, directed by Koby Altman, has long held off trading any members of their "core four:" Darius Garland, Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley, and Jarrett Allen. Even when they were denied last season's playoff series against the New York Knicks, the front office was patient, according to CBS Sports.

But this year's second-round defeat has put pressure on making drastic changes. Injuries aside, a roster constructed around two max-contract guards and two non-stretch bigs might have plateaued. The Cavaliers are now confronting a harsh reality: another coaching switch or bench depth isn't sufficient, but a structural balance is required.

Garland and Allen No Longer Untouchable

According to Chris Fedor of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Donovan Mitchell and Evan Mobley are now considered the only true untouchables. The Cavaliers are reportedly more open than ever to exploring trade options involving Garland or Allen.

"I have been getting the sense that the Cavs would be more willing to entertain and at least consider possibilities for Jarrett Allen and Darius Garland than they have in the past," Fedor said.

Salary Cap Restraints

Budget constraints hang over Cleveland's off-season plans. The Cavaliers currently are $10 million over the second luxury tax apron, and any deal adding additional salary would put them at risk of engaging hard cap restrictions.

This would mean the team can't just stack a few salaries from a trade to pick up a more expensive star. Rather, they'll probably look for deals that bring back two or more players on cheaper contracts to complete the roster while remaining economically healthy.

Which Teams Will Trade for Garland or Allen?

The market for Darius Garland might be more bustling with activity, given the demand for shot-creating point guards. The Orlando Magic, Houston Rockets, and even the New Orleans Pelicans could be potential places. Garland is young, and there are likely franchises that will see him as a long-term franchise piece.

Conversely, Jarrett Allen's market is not as deep. Centers are not in heavy demand on most competing rosters, but the Los Angeles Lakers, who have made a previous bid for Mark Williams, might be a suitor.

Allen would probably need a three-team deal, though, as the Lakers might not provide players Cleveland needs directly.
