Dwyane Wade has opened up about a deeply personal aspect of his past: his letter exchange with his mother, Jolinda Wade, while she was in prison. The former Miami Heat star disclosed that he still keeps all the letters she wrote to him while in prison, and he continues reading them today.

Those letters acted as a strong anchor to their relationship, constantly reminding them both of the impenetrable bond between mother and son, even when prison walls stood in between.

Dwyane revealed to TMZ Sports that writing to his mom in prison was never about judging. Rather, it speaks more about unconditional support and love.

"We wasn't judging her. We wasn't pointing fingers at her. We just loved her and we just wanted her to come home to us."

Jolinda was addicted and incarcerated at the time, but those letters brought her emotional intimacy and strength. Wade explained that those words made him experience her presence when she couldn't be present with him physically.

'You've Got to Go Back and Appreciate Things'

Even today, Dwyane Wade comes back to reading his mom's warm letters. They remind him of how much they'd progressed as a family and the challenges that they had overcome collectively.

The 43-year-old said that we have to go back and take a look to "appreciate things" no matter where we go in life.

Jolinda Wade's Inspiring Transformation

Jolinda Wade's tale didn't end in prison. After her release in 2003, she gained sobriety, restored her life, and eventually was ordained as a pastor.

In 2008, her son surprised her with a gift that changed her life: a church in Chicago, where she could continue her work and share her testimony with others.

Her path from prison to ministry is a tribute to redemption and strength, a reminder that healing is possible when love guides the way.

National TV Reunion of the Heart

Their relationship recently found the spotlight on "TODAY with Jenna & Friends", as Jolinda unexpectedly appeared on air for his son. She said to Dwyane:

"Your letters got me through each day and enabled me to be a part of all the wonderful things that was happening in your life."
