The world of sports was shocked when news came out that Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier was arrested in conjunction with a federal investigation into illegal gambling. Shortly thereafter, it was verified that Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups was also arrested on similar charges.

According to Clutch Points, the two arrests have accelerated the level of scrutiny throughout the NBA and have led to renewed concentration on the league's history with gambling activity.

Malik Beasley's Name Emerges as Probe Grows Deeper

Federal authorities may be focusing their attention on free agent Malik Beasley, previously cleared by the NBA of betting infractions, according to sports reporter Pablo Torre.

Torre broke the news on X that Beasley's situation could depend on a forthcoming Department of Justice (DOJ) announcement, indicating the government might be investigating a different line of inquiry.

"Sources tell [Pablo Torre] Malik Beasley's fate also hinges on DOJ announcement. And that MB was previously investigated and cleared by the NBA for 'making a bet or two on another sport.' Source: 'The NBA is under strict confidentiality, but you can't control the government,'" Torre wrote on his X account.

To date, Beasley is still a free agent, so any resolution will not impact any team roster directly. But the increased focus may slow his return to the court and discredit his free agency.

Beasley's Lawyer Responds to Ongoing Allegations

More than a month ago, Beasley's lawyer, Steve Haney, publicly addressed the situation, stating that the league had initiated what he called a "misconduct investigation."

Haney also observed that the Eastern District of New York leak had had a depressing effect on Beasley's free agency, although he was optimistic about resolving the case so that his client could suit up again next season.
