The deal, announced Wednesday, adds two more years to his previous contract and raises his total value to $504.75 million, with performance incentives that could push it as high as $522.25 million. It marks one of the largest agreements in professional sports history and ensures the Chiefs will continue building their future around their superstar quarterback.
Mahomes originally signed a groundbreaking 10-year, $450 million contract in 2020, a deal that already reshaped how NFL quarterbacks are paid, ESPN reported.
Now, the restructured extension pushes his average annual salary to about $63.1 million, placing him at the top of the league once again as other quarterbacks like Joe Burrow, Josh Allen, and Dak Prescott reset the market in recent years.

Patrick Mahomes' Legacy Grows
Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt praised Mahomes not just for his success on the field, but for what he has meant to the entire organization and city.
"Over the last decade, Patrick has become one of the most iconic, beloved sports figures of all time," Hunt said. He highlighted Mahomes' leadership in taking Kansas City to multiple Super Bowl appearances and championships while becoming a role model for fans.
The Chiefs have made a habit of adjusting Mahomes' contract over the years, a strategy that gives the team flexibility to keep building a strong roster around him. This latest extension continues that approach while also rewarding his continued success and influence.
Mahomes has already led Kansas City to three Super Bowl titles and five total appearances since becoming the starting quarterback in 2018.
According to AP, he has thrown for nearly 36,000 yards in his career and remains the centerpiece of one of the NFL's modern dynasties.
Even after a challenging season that included a knee injury and surgery, Mahomes spent the offseason working his way back on the field. He has been actively participating in team workouts and is expected to be ready for the start of the new season.
"I want to be out there with my guys," Mahomes said earlier this offseason. "All I can do is execute the day and do whatever I can do to be better that day."
The Chiefs' commitment is also about stability after a disappointing 6-11 season, one in which Mahomes missed the final stretch.
