Tonight at 7:30 p.m. ET, the Montreal Canadiens (25-14-5, 55 points) and Philadelphia Flyers (22-17-4, 48 points) skate against each other at the Wells Fargo Center for the third and final time this season. Montreal enters play in third place in the Atlantic Division and is 2-0-1 thus far in 2014 while Philadelphia won five games during their six-game road trip and is coming home for the first time since before the Christmas break.
The Canadiens lost 19-year old center and fourth-highest scorer Alex Galchenyuk (10-13-23) to a broken hand during their 2-1 victory over the Florida Panthers on Monday night.
"He's an important player on our hockey club," goalie Carey Price said of Galchenyuk via NHL.com. "He's very talented offensively. He contributes a lot to our team. Whenever you lose a guy on your team, it hurts, and I hope he can recover quickly and I'm sure he'll be highly motivated when he gets back."
Price may start tonight and is 20-11-4 with a 2.22 goals-against average and a .928 save percentage. He'll likely be opposed by Steve Mason, who is 17-10-4 with a 2.39 GAA and a .922 save percentage.
Flyers captain Claude Giroux was likely playing with a chip on his shoulder on Tuesday after he learned that he was snubbed from the Canadian Olympic hockey team and he scored a goal during regulation of Philadelphia's eventual 3-2 overtime win over the New Jersey Devils.
"Anytime somebody kind of takes something away from you, you want to prove them wrong," Giroux said via NHL.com. "I put that behind me though. I have to go on and keep playing. It's a fun game out there."
Giroux got off to a slow start this season, but has six goals in Philadelphia's past nine games and leads the team with 39 points off of 13 goals and 26 assists while Jakub Voracek has 10 tallies and 20 helpers for 30 points and Wayne Simmonds has lit the lamp 14 times and added 15 assists for 29 points.
P.K. Subban paces Montreal with 33 points off of seven goals and 26 assists while Tomas Plekanec has 13 markers and 14 helpers for 27 points and Max Pacioretty has found the twine 19 times and added seven assists for 26 points.
The Canadiens look to keep going despite a tough loss through injury while the Flyers will look to find the same success at home as they did on the road when these teams hit the ice tonight at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
