Young fiery Rafael Montero takes the hill for the Mets while the Nationals counter with fifth-starter hopeful Taylor Jordan.
Outfielders Curtis Granderson and Chris Young don a Mets jersey for the first time in an active game this afternoon and they'll be anchored in center field by the sure-handed and strong-armed Juan Lagares, who will bat ninth.
Granderson and Young both dealt with injuries last season. Granderson hit .229 in 61 games for the New York Yankees last season with seven homers and 15 RBIs while Young hit .200 for the Oakland Athletics last season in 107 games with 12 homers and 40 RBIs.
Third baseman and captain David Wright has the day off for the Mets while Josh Satin will play at the hot corner for New York.
Wright recently said he agreed with general manager Sandy Alderson's assertion that the Mets could win 90 games this season.
"We've got good players," Wright said via ESPNNewYork.com. "I love the fact that Sandy is confident in us. I think 90 is challenging, it's attainable and it's a good starting point for us. You know, number goals, it's tough to come out and say, 'I'm going to do this. I'm going to do that. We're going to do that.' But I think 90 is a good starting point for giving us something to shoot for and getting guys to understand that mediocrity is not going to be acceptable.
Nate McLouth will make his Nationals debut today in right field and he'll bat leadoff for the team.
The heart of the order will be anchored by usual starters in third baseman Ryan Zimmerman and first baseman Adam LaRoche. Zimmerman hit .275 through 147 games last season with 26 homers and 79 RBIs while LaRoche hit .237 through 152 games with 20 homers and 62 RBIs.
