Joba Chamberlain appears to be happy with his fresh start as a member of the Detroit Tigers, at least if you look at his arm. Chamberlain turned the scar he has from his Tommy John surgery into a smiley face tattoo on his arm.
Chamberlain has looked much different with the Tigers as he has slimmed down and grown out some facial hair, and the tattoo that uses his scar as a mouth and two tattooed-on dots as the eyes adds to the change.
According to Yahoo! Sports, Chamberlain has had his new ink since last summer, but it was first noticed by a reporter from the Detroit Free Press during Thursday's exhibition game--which was the first appearance of the spring for the reliever.
The Tigers won Thursday's game over the Braves 5-2, however the tattoo on Chamberlain's arm was the biggest story with it being an exhibition game.

Chamberlain had surgery on his elbow in 2011 and decided to have some fun with it by adding the tattoo to surround the scar.
Chamberlain appeared in 45 games for the New York Yankees last season and went 2-1 with a 4.93 ERA and 38 strikeouts.
Chamberlain signed a one-year $2.5 million contract with the Tigers this past December. The Tigers enter the 2014 campaign looking for their first straight division title and will enter under Brad Ausmus as manager following Jim Leyland retiring after the team lost to the Boston Red Sox in the American League Championship Series in six games to close out the 2013 season.
In 260 career games, Chamberlain is 23-14 with a 3.85 ERA and 446 strikeouts.
