CM Punk Return: Update On TNA Giving Offer To Uninterested 'Best in the World' [VIDEO]

There has been a lot of uncertainty over whether or not TNA Wrestling offered CM Punk a contract to come into the company as its top star as the original reporter Dave Meltzer is standing by his story while a TNA source has denied the claims.

John Cena Comments On Potential Steve Austin WWE Return

Meltzer first broke the news in The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, saying that TNA made a lucrative offer to Punk much like it did to Alberto Del Rio after his release from the WWE and ugly public battle with the company.

The report by Meltzer claimed that Punk wasn't contacted directly by the company, but through an intermediary that is close with him. Meltzer maintains that Punk had no interest in joining the company while a source within TNA told PWInsider that the rumors were untrue.

"No offer was made, officially or via an intermediary-no truth to that rumor," the source told the site.

Still, Meltzer is sticking by his story being factual based on the thought process that Punk is a highly-touted free agent since he walked out on the WWE in January so why wouldn't TNA make a play for him as they search for a new television deal now that Spike TV is dropping Impact Wrestling from its schedule?

"The other story is obviously true and I didn't think it was that big a deal since he showed no real interest," Meltzer wrote, according to Wrestligheadlines.com. "Look at common sense. You're trying to make a TV deal. There is a free agent out there who is one of the biggest stars and you're denying contact with him? In other words, are you saying you're an incompetent promotion? It was how many minutes after Del Rio got fired that they tried to get in touch with him? But they didn't as least try to contact Punk while trying to close a deal?"

Adding to the intrigue, VoicesofWrestling.com reported last week that Punk attended Ohio Valley Wrestling's Saturday Night Special two weeks ago in what is believed to be the first appearance at a wrestling show for Punk since leaving the WWE.

The report stated that Punk only spoke to Rip Rogers, Cliff Compton and Trailer Park Trash at the event while other wrestlers were told not to bother him -- another rumor that is up to debate.

"Trailer Park Trash was not in the Davis Arena that night. No one was told not to bother CM Punk, there was no meeting held," said OVW director of television Michael Baldwin per Wrestlingheadlines.com. "Punk was here to talk old times with Danny Davis as the two are friends, and spent most of the time in Danny's office. We wanted to clear things up with the article which was posted on October 6. Thank you."

Punk has recently said he is "never ever" returning to the squared circle, so it is doubtful that the "Best in the World" will surface in any promotion anytime soon.
