Tony Romo Can Win a Super Bowl for the Dallas Cowboys, According to a Two-Time NFL Champion

Tony Romo is a Super Bowl-caliber quarterback. So says a former Dallas Cowboys quarterback who won two Super Bowls himself.

Roger Staubach appeared on a Dallas radio station last week and said he is a Tony Romo fan, the Dallas Morning News reported. Staubach, who led the Cowboys to victories in Super Bowls VI and XII and appearances in two other Super Bowls, said he thought Romo has what it takes to win football's ultimate game.

"I think Tony Romo is a championship quarterback," Staubach was quoted as saying. "He can take a team to a championship. He can't do it by himself, but I really believe he can do it. I just see what he does on the field, the plays he makes, the throws he makes, the sense that he has to move in the pocket so I'm pulling really hard for Tony because I really believe he is one heck of a quarterback, and that's a feeling from somebody that I didn't say that about any other quarterbacks except for Troy Aikman. I think Tony is the right quarterback, and we're lucky to have Tony Romo."

Romo, who signed a six-year contract extension in the spring worth $108 million, has a 1-6 record in the postseason. Last season, the Cowboys finished with an 8-8 record and didn't even make the playoffs. ESPN reported that Romo doesn't feel any added pressure because of the extension.

"Pressure and fear are all just in your own brain," said Romo, who is guaranteed $55 million of his new contract. "To me, it's nothing more than you going out and your competing you're butt off every day and trying to win every day. So I don't allow what outside influences affect my psyche or what my mental makeup is. It's about this room, this team and how I'm going to get myself and my teammates ready to play. Outside influences don't directly affect how your emotional state is."

The Cowboys, who are tied with the Pittsburgh Steelers with eight Super Bowl appearances in their history, have not been to the big game since the 1995 season.
