Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton got his feathers ruffled during a high school football camp in Bradenton, Fla., or not, CollegeSpun.com reports.
C'yontai Lewis, a high school graduate who is headed for the University of Florida in the fall, was at the 7-on-7 camp with Newton and sought Newton's attention by giving him the "Gator Chomp" - mimicking an alligator's mouth movement with his arms extended in front of him.
CollegeSpun.com added that several people also in attendance at the camp said Newton took exception to the high school senior's gesture. Newton led the University of Auburn, a rival school in the SEC, to the national championship in 2010.
According to a tweet by Richard Johnson, "Cam then turned and said 'so disrespectful' under his breath to a guy with him."
A representative of SBNation.com also said the Panthers quarterback did not like the "chomp" in a tweet.
"Said "been there, done that" RT @RagjUF: It was hilarious, and Cam was not amused one bit."
However, Newton reportedly agreed to take a photo with Lewis later on during the camp and then went even further.
According to another tweet by Johnson, "Lewis then got a personalized Auburn jersey with Newton's name on the back from a teammates parent and took a team picture with him."
Newton last had been seen publicly chatting with two-time NBA champion LeBron James outside the Miami Heat locker room after Game 7 on Thursday night.
Al.com reported that James said, "That's a bad boy right there; you're bad," to Newton.
As James walked away, he turned his head and repeated, "He is great."
There was no mention of what Newton might've said under his breath after that exchange.
