Russell Wilson Contract Update: Sides' Amicable Talk Only Fuel Quarterback's Ire? [VIDEO]

The Seattle Seahawks and Russell Wilson are very close, coach Pete Carroll says.

Except that he's not talking about contract negotiations. And that could only serve to raise Wilson's ire.

The Seattle Times is reporting that Carroll called the talks between the team and the third-year quarterback positive, but in a different sense.

"We're very close in our conversation and exchanging our process through this,'' Carroll said. "The communication has been great.''

But how great can the conversations be when the two sides are nowhere close to an agreement on an extension? If the Seahawks are trying to be so nice to Wilson, what's the holdup?

Carroll refused to say whether he thought a settlement could be reached before training camp.

"I don't know that,'' he said. "Not talking about that right now."

One source told the Times that a deal with Wilson still could get done before training camp stars, but Carroll said he wasn't worried if the sides don't reach a deal by the time the 2015 season starts.

"I think as much as anybody can deal with it, Russell will,'' he said. "We have talked a lot about the process of it and all that, the expectations. He's had a great offseason. He has looked incredibly in shape and faster than ever and all that. He's worked great on the field when he's been with us. He's really set his mind to it. The proof is in the action he can put out there. He's on it.

"So hopefully we get something done. But if we don't, we'll just have to deal with it."

Wilson, however, already has been accused of letting the Seahawks know about his feelings of feeling unappreciated, with some posts on his Twitter account. If he goes through the season without a contract, those feelings easy could escalate.
