Tennis News And Rumors: Rafael Nadal Ruled Out Of Davis Cup

Rafael Nadal has been ruled out of Spain's Davis Cup team. This news came just after his loss in the finals of Australian Open 2017 against Roger Federer.

The Spanish Tennis Federation said on Monday that Rafael Nadal will not be featured in the Davis Cup because of fatigue after his losing in five sets last Sunday, as reported by ESPN.

This announcement was made after the recommendation by Dr. Angel Ruiz Cotorro, who told that Nadal's recovery will not take much time. Nadal will be replaced by Feliciano Lopez in the first round of the World Group for the best-of-five series starting next weekend in Croatia.

The decision was also made after keeping in mind that Nadal played a significant number of matches after his comeback from the wrist injury which kept him out for four months.

"Rafa's wear and tear in the last month was very significant," Conchita Martinez, Spain's captain told the Spanish Tennis Federation website on Monday. Martinez added, "He needs to recover from his recent efforts and certainly will be with us again in the next rounds" as reported in Indian Express.

Lopez will be joining Roberto Bautista Agut, Pablo Carreno and Marc Lopez in the team when they play at Osijek, Croatia from February 3-5. The 14-time Grand Slam Champion is expected to make a comeback in Rotterdam from February 13-19.

Last year, it was Nadal who helped Spain win against India but unfortunately, he missed the singles match because of a wrist injury.

This year's Davis Cup will be celebrating its 106th tournament. The format is played by men's tennis national teams. Apart from Nadal, there are certain few other big names who will be missing their games like Milos Raonic and Andy Murray of Canada wull aslo be out when their team meets Great Britain. Roger Federer, Stan Wawrinka and Kei Nishikori have also been opted out.
