Copa Del Rey Final Will Not Be Held At Bernabeu

President of Real Madrid, Florentino Perez has told that the Copa del Rey final between Barcelona and Alaves will not be played at Bernabeu because of the construction work that is being done on the ground.

This kind of dispute about where will the match take place have become very common in Spanish football and especially when Barcelona or Madrid are playing in it. Sport has reported that Barcelona wants to play their fourth straight Copa del Rey finals which is on May 27 in Madrid, which has a capacity of 81,044.

Barcelona won their last trophy last season against Sevilla by 2-0 at the Vicente Caldron. That time Bernabeu was ruled out of possible venue because of the conflict with the schedule of Bruce Springsteen live concert at that time as reported by the goal.

"The Copa final cannot be played at the Bernabeu because there is work going on," Perez is quoted as saying by Marca. "Anyway, are there no other issues [to ask about]?" So Atletico's Vicente Caldron is once again in the race to become the host for this year's final as well.

Alaves - who are about to play their first Copa del Rey finals in 96 years -  want Athletic Bilbao's San Mames to be the host in which the stadium is just around 62 kilometers away from their Mendizorratza ground as reported by ESPN. Alaves owner Josean Querejeta told Cadena Ser, "The stadium would be perfect for our fans. It is the closest stadium for our fans to travel to and a lot of our supporters would be able to go. It's a modern stadium and it's a famous landmark in the Basque country."

Construction crews are expected to move into the Bernabeu stadium in few days following the Real's final league match of the season which is scheduled on May 13 against Seville.
