The New England Patriots are having a very odd offseason because they made several moves to improve their already impressive roster. According to ESPN analyst Max Kellerman, the reason why the Patriots are doing a lot of moves is due to Tom Brady and Bill Belichick retiring at the end of next season.
In a recent episode of ESPN First Take, Kellerman believes that Tom Brady is going to retire next year when he wins his sixth Super Bowl title. He added that Bill Belichick will also walk away from the game with Brady.
"When does Belichick trade his highest available draft picks for the present? Right now, he's getting ready for his and Tom Brady's swan song. My belief is that would be this season, maybe I'm wrong but he knows that the end is coming," Kellerman said.
Of course, nobody knows how many years are left on Bill Belichick's deal with the Patriots while Tom Brady is signed through the 2019 season. It should be noted that the comments above are made by Kellerman and no official word came from the Patriots.
There is a possibility that Tom Brady and Bill Belichick are indeed retiring at season's end and they have nothing more to prove. However, the legendary duo still has one more accomplishment that they want to achieve.
According to Matt Burke of Metro, the Patriots are looking to achieve a perfect season next year. Tom Brady and Bill Belichick almost did it in 2007 but they lost Super Bowl XLII to the New York Giants. Based on the moves New England has made this offseason, that might just be the case.
The Patriots were able to acquire wide receiver Brandin Cooks to give Tom Brady another threat on offense. They also managed to add tight end Dwayne Allen, defensive end Kony Ealy and cornerback Stephon Gilmore, per Patriots.com.
The reigning Super Bowl champions are the favorites to win it all next season with Tom Brady and Bill Belichick at the helm. Other teams can hope that they can make the right moves and beat the Patriots next season.
