Wisconsin goes for its sixth straight victory and brings in its longest winning streak in two seasons after a 51-3 victory over Indiana last week behind the team's stingy defense.
"Indiana averaged [over] 40 points per game and we gave up three," lineman Beau Allen said, according to ESPN. "In our minds that's three too many. Hopefully that continues. The way we prepare and our offensive plan will allow us to do so."
Minnesota comes into the game with a winning streak of its own, having won four straight decisions.
For Minnesota to extend their streak to five games it'll have to solve a defense that is fifth in the FBS by allowing an average of 4.3 yards per play and is seventh nationally by allowing 98.8 rushing yards per game.
"We started off the season with a high ceiling, and I think we really have grown each week," linebacker Chris Borland said. "That's the mark of a great team and a great defense is to improve weekly. Guys are improving by leaps and bounds both individually and as a unit."
The Badgers know they're going up against an offense that is the second-slowest FBS offense which will be a change of pace from recent opponents.
"You don't see the fast-break football, which will be a nice fresh breath of air for maybe both teams as you sit and look at it," Wisconsin coach Gary Andersen told ESPN. "They want to establish the run game. They want to run the ball. They want to be productive in the run game."
Wisconsin wide receiver Jared Abbrederis rushed for 32-yard and 49-yard scores last week and has 113 rushing yards on five attempts with two scores while also racking up 849 yards on 54 receptions for six touchdowns.
David Cobb led Minnesota on the ground in their 24-10 victory over Penn State on Nov. 9 where he rushed for 139 of the teams 195 yards on the ground. Cobb has rushed for 942 yards on 175 carries this season for seven touchdowns thus far.
The Gophers are looking to play in the New Year's Day bowl for the first time since 1962.
"I didn't know if we could move quite this quick, but I think that's a credit to our staff and our players. On the inside -- it's sometimes hard to see on the outside -- we knew we were getting better," coach Jerry Kill said, per ESPN.
Both teams will look to extend winning streaks but only one will when Wisconsin and Minnesota compete on the grid iron this afternoon.
