Urban Meyer, a successful head coach in college football, locked an agreement with the Jacksonville Jaguars to become the next head coach. The three-time national championship coach left his job at Fox as an analyst to enter NFL.
Urban Meyer's Sudden Jump to NFL
The Jaguars confirmed on Thursday evening that Urban Meyer will be the new Jacksonville coach. Meyer will now be tested if he could turn a season-worst Jaguars into contenders.

The 56-year-old might be entering a risky leap in a more competitive environment after the Jacksonville squad only managed to win one game last season, 1-15 as per Sports Illustrated. Over the last three seasons, the Jaguars recorded a 12-36 record, which needs more time for refining.
A long-time college football head coach, Urban Meyer is lined with the ranks of the greatest coaches in college football history. He coached four teams during his tenure as head coach of college teams with a .854 winning percentage.
Meyer handled the Bowling Green Falcons, the Utah Utes, the Florida Gators, and the Ohio State Buckeyes from 2001 to 2019 before he retired. His worst record as a college head coach dated back during his stint with Florida, where the Gators finished 8-5 in 2010. But, the Jaguars are much different than the previous teams that he mentored so it would pose a massive challenge for the newly-hired coach.
However, the Jaguars might face some problems during the transition of Meyer to Jacksonville. In a report by the NFL website the Jaguars should consider Meyer's declining health which started during his Ohio State run. In addition, he also resigned in Florida due to the same reason accentuated by extreme stress and coaching workloads.

The possible solution could be lighter off-season management which could help for the longevity of his coaching job. But, it is still up for the Jaguars how they could juggle the possible problems for the next season.
Meyer joined the ranks of former NFL coaches Nick Saban, Lou Holtz, and Steve Spurrier as the only coaches to record more wins in college. Saban is the winningest coach with 256 wins, followed by Holtz's 249, Spurrier's 228, and lastly, Meyer's 187.
Jacksonville looks forward to Meyer's power-rush playbook. When Meyer coached Ohio, the Buckeyes recorded average passing yards of 358.7 while the average rushing yards was 177. However, it's still too early to tell whether this could fare well with the Jaguars given that the league contains the most talented football players.
According to Sporting News, the Jaguars eye Trevor Lawrence of Clemson for the No. overall pick. Meyer could build around him as the franchise quarterback, together with the NFL players who were from the previous colleges that he coached. Jaguars' 11 draft picks in 2021 could produce more rotations, decisions, power-plays, and rebuilding.
If Jaguars want to improve the over-all chemistry outside the team, Jacksonville owner Shahid Khan should get well with Meyer's way of coaching. Given that Jacksonville was at the bottom last season, patience and communication should be consistent and easy-going for the two.
