Red Bull's Max Verstappen capped off a dominant weekend in the Principality of Monaco, claiming the 39th victory of his career at the 2023 Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday.

The Dutchman started the race on pole, clinching the spot in front thanks to a mega lap in qualifying that had him down to Fernando Alonso by two-tenths of a second after two sectors in the tight street circuit.

Max Verstappen Gets 39th Race Win

The back-to-back defending champion claimed his 39th victory with the race win in Monaco, overtaking Sebastian Vettel as the Red Bull driver with the most wins in F1 history.

However, the Dutch driver still needs two more world championships to tie Vettel's tally of four, won consecutively from 2010 to 2013, all with the energy drink company.

Verstappen is leading this year's championship race by a comfortable margin over teammate Sergio Perez.

Red Bull's RB19 car has been dominant this season, winning all six races so far, with Verstappen responsible for four.

Red Bull Motorsport Advisor Helmut Marko already declared Verstappen as the best Red Bull driver ever in January 2022, when the 25-year-old won his maiden championship despite Vettel's more impressive number of titles.

With Verstappen tied with Red Bull Racing until the conclusion of the 2028 Formula 1 season, the Dutchman has plenty of time to break more records as long as his team produces a competitive car.
