The New York Jets have decided to part ways with wide receiver Mecole Hardman, trading him back to his former team, the Kansas City Chiefs, on Wednesday, October 18.

The Jets are sending Hardman and a 2025 seventh-round draft pick to the Chiefs in exchange for a 2025 sixth-round draft pick, per league insider Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The 25-year-old had signed with New York last March on a one-year deal worth $4 million in free agency.

However, his time with the Jets was uneventful, seeing limited playing time on just 28 offensive snaps and two on special teams with minimal involvement in the game, touching the ball just once in five games.

Hardman was selected by the Chiefs in the second round of the 2019 draft and remained with the team for four seasons.

During his tenure with the Chiefs, he accumulated 152 receptions for 2,094 yards and 16 touchdowns, making the Pro Bowl game and Second Team All-Pro in his rookie season.

The Chiefs have encountered difficulties in their wide receiver performance this season. Rashee Rice, a rookie second-round draft pick, is leading the position in catches, receptions, and yards,

Tight end Travis Kelce is the only Chiefs player with at least 25 receptions and 30 targets.

Hardman expressed frustration

Despite his limited involvement, Hardman refrained from publicly expressing discontent about his reduced role. However, in a recent interview with ESPN, he voiced his frustration.

"I'm probably the best in the league in space. Maybe [the coaches] see something different," the two-time Super Bowl champion said about not being utilized for screenplays and gadget-type runs.
