Browns: 3 Reasons Why Joe Flacco Is Not The Extra Quarterback Cleveland Needs

The Cleveland Browns are looking for another quarterback to take the place of Deshaun Watson who is out for the season. One prominent name trying his luck is Super Bowl champion QB Joe Flacco.

The Browns are left scampering for another play-caller, not because they doubt what Dorian Thompson-Robinson and P.J. Walker bring to the table. It is more of a backup plan in the event injuries or their current QBs fail to live up to expectations.

Flacco lacks passing, mobility

Flacco is someone who would make sense although he is not the same player that most may remember him to be. The 38-year-old is a former Super Bowl MVP but is a limited passer that also lacks mobility, NFL.com reported.

His experience is valuable but at this point and in today’s game, Flacco may not just cut it. Had he been signed, Flacco would have ended up playing behind Thompson-Robinson and Walker.

How fit is Flacco?

Considering he has not played for quite a while, questions are in the air on the health and conditioning of Super Bowl XLVIII. While he may be keeping himself in shape, it remains that being out with the NFL at the halfway point is something that needs looking into.

There is also the matter of Flacco’s injury history. He has had his share, including neck, back, shoulder and knee issues in the past years.

Given his injury history, there is a good chance that he could get one this NFL season per Draftsharks.com. They list Flacco as someone who has a 70% chance of getting injured which would translate into potentially missing games.

How much will Flacco cost?

Finally, there are money matters on the table to be considered. Will Flacco be a worthy bet? If so, how much will it cost the Browns?

Flacco is unlikely to get a good deal since he would be more of a backup, a third-string option for the Browns. Although that would mean lower chances of being used, the money spent on Flacco could be a loss rather than a profit.

Browns won’t sign Flacco for now

In the latest update between the Cleveland Browns and Joe Flacco, it appears no deal has been sealed.

Per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler who cited sources, Flacco is not expected to sign with the Browns after his workout.

Following his workout, Joe Flacco is not expected to sign with the #Browns today, per source. That could be logistical - he wouldn’t be involved in the Week 11 gameplan this late in the week anyway. So, Flacco will head home and both sides can assess.

Although no deal was worked out, Fowler adds that there remains a possibility that the Browns may sign with the team. This may all depend on how the Browns perform in Week 11 when they face the Pittsburgh Steelers via the Bleacher Report.
