College football's preeminent coach has two of the wealthiest schools fighting for his services, and no matter where he ends up, Saban will be the winner.
Gridirongrit.com reported Wednesday night of three different scenarios involving Saban and the tug-of-war between Texas and Alabama over a job that as of Wednesday night wasn't even open.
The website posted a tweet by Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, citing a source close to the Texas executive council of regents, saying that Saban will succeed Brown.
Dean Blevins of OKC-KWTV reported via Twitter that Saban has an offer on the table from Texas that is worth $100 million over 10 years plus a 1 percent share of the Longhorn Network, as posted on gridirongrit.com
Meanwhile, Gil Brandt of NFL.com tweeted that Saban is renegotiating his contract with Alabama at a salary of about $7 million per year, which seems small in comparison to the alleged Texas offer.
Give Saban or his agent, Jimmy Sexton, credit for saying last January that Texas is the only school he'd consider leaving Alabama for. That leaked information to The Associated Press is paying handsomely right now.
Multiple media reports have indicated that Brown's fate could be decided at a Texas council of regents meeting today. Texas officials and Saban both tried to dispel the rumors of his replacing Brown last week, but both sides have been silent as Brown's fate is closer to becoming finalized.
Twice this year, coaches have referred to Saban as the devil. According to ESPN.com, Vanderbilt coach James Franklin called Saban "Nicky Satan" at a high school banquet, and Florida assistant coach Tim Davis talked about his boss, head coach Will Muschamp, having worked for Saban as having "coached under the devil himself for seven years."
