New Orleans Pelicans sensation Zion Williamson is hotly denying explosive charges made against him in a rape and kidnapping lawsuit filed this week.

The NBA forward refers to the allegations as "categorically false" and says the lawsuit is an attempt to extort money.

Williamson's Legal Team Denounces Lawsuit as Defamatory and False

In a statement issued via TMZ Sports, Williamson's lawyers were adamant, calling the suit a "reckless" smear.

"We take these allegations with the utmost seriousness, and we unequivocally deny them. The allegations contained in the complaint are categorically false and reckless," the NBA star's attorney said, adding, "This appears to be an attempt to exploit a professional athlete driven by a financial motive rather than any legitimate grievance."

The suit, brought by a woman known as "Jane Doe" in Los Angeles, charges Williamson with rape and kidnapping in a string of alleged events that stretch back several years.

Williamson's lawyers, however, maintain that the relationship was completely consensual and casual, which started more than six years ago when Williamson was 18.

No Criminal Charges Filed: Willamson Claims Extortion Attempt

Williamson's lawyer further asserted that the woman never uttered any complaint during or after the relationship, only making demands for millions after the friendship collapsed. Williamson has reportedly taken the case to law enforcement, where his representatives assert an arrest warrant was drawn up on the plaintiff over extortion attempts.

Although the allegations are of a grave nature, Williamson believes the justice system will reveal the facts and wholly vindicate him. His lawyers have indicated they will make counterclaims and seek damages for libel.

NBA Star Plans to Fight Back with Counterclaims

As Zion denies the charges, his lawyers are prepared for a court fight. According to his attorney, the 24-year-old athlete plans to make counterclaims and seek substantial damages for the slanderous suit.

Alleged Victim Met Hi, During Duke Days

The accuser states she met Williamson when he was a college basketball star at Duke University. She claims in her lawsuit that he emotionally and physically abused her for many years. Yet to date, she has not made a police report, according to her attorneys.
