Abyss confirmed in a recent interview that he has officially retired as a professional wrestler. Many were left surprised by the news, particularly with all the speculation surrounding his comeback to the ring. For Cody Rhodes, seeing him again in the WWE ring is not impossible.

The TNA legend, however, has not competed in the ring since 2019. He then moved into a WWE producer's role, ending his career as a wrestler in the ring.

Abyss has been a professional wrestling mainstay for decades. His retirement signals the end of an era for fans who grew up witnessing his legendary TNA, WWE, and beyond battles. Rumors of his return to the ring have been floating, but Abyss has confirmed that his in-ring days are done.

Cody Rhodes's Dream of Having Abyss at the Royal Rumble

Even though Abyss has retired officially, that has not deterred other wrestling legends from making a case for his return. Cody Rhodes, one of the most prominent names in the world of wrestling, recently talked about his continued efforts to get Abyss back for the Royal Rumble show.

On the latest episode of "What Do You Wanna Talk About?," Rhodes sat down with Kevin Owens to reminisce about past wrestling moments and the struggles that come with injuries.

During the conversation, Rhodes revealed that he had been trying to get Abyss to compete in the Royal Rumble for years.

"One that I've been trying for years, and it's just not going to happen. I keep trying to get Abyss into the Royal Rumble."

Rhodes said that he admires Abyss and is committed to the world of wrestling. Yet, much as he wished, it now appears that the aspiration to witness Abyss at the Royal Rumble is no longer on the cards.

Kevin Owens Comments on Abyss's Physical Transformation

Kevin Owens, a guest on the podcast discussion, chimed in on the issue. "It came so close one year."

According to Fightful, Owens recalled a moment when Abyss almost made his return to the Royal Rumble. But Owens was quick to remind that Abyss's physical transformation made it harder for him to return.

Owens added that it might be too late for Abyss to have a Royal Rumble appearance because he had already lost too much weight. If WWE convinces him to return, it would be illegal.

Although Owens's remark might have been facetious, it highlights the considerable physical damage that years of wrestling may do to a performer's body. Abyss's retirement, particularly in light of his physical state, is a testament to the cruel realities of a wrestler's life.
Kevin Owens Reveals What's to Come with Surgery

In the same podcast, Kevin Owens used the time to make some personal announcements regarding his health. The star confirmed that he would be having surgery on his neck in mid-July after years of coping with a nagging injury.

Owens said that the surgery had been postponed since the doctors wanted to see out the natural healing process of his spinal cord.

Even though the 41-year-old wrestler had never shown any symptoms of his neck injury, the pain and nerve problems in his arms and legs have recently become unbearable. Owens remains hopeful for his recovery despite the setback.
