The NFL coaching merry-go-round never slows down, and going into the 2025 season, two names are already emerging as possible early departures: Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel and New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll.

Both, in the opinion of NBC Sports analyst Mike Florio, might be among the first to be fired this season if things do not improve in a hurry.

Mike McDaniel Tops the Hot Seat Rankings After Dolphins' Collapse

Following his leadership of the Dolphins to an 11-6 record in 2023, Mike McDaniel was hailed as a coaching star on the rise. But a lackluster 8-9 record in 2024 turned it all around. Florio now puts McDaniel atop his "hot seat" list, warning that a second-straight lackluster season might encourage Dolphins owner Stephen Ross to make a drastic move.

According to the NFL analyst, McDaniel's tenure with the Dolphins might "fly right into glass" this year, referencing internal dysfunction and organizational upheaval.

McDaniel, now entering the final year of his four-year contract, faces mounting pressure to deliver results. With star players growing frustrated and locker room morale in question, Miami's leadership could pull the plug early if the team struggles out of the gate.

Stephen Ross, 85, might not be so willing to sit out another rebuild. Florio compared it to former Jets owner Leon Hess, who famously declared, "I'm 80 years old. I want results now," before dismissing Pete Carroll after one season.

Giants' Brian Daboll Also Under Pressure as Patience Wears Thin

2022 NFL Coach of the Year Brian Daboll is in a similarly precarious position. While initially endorsed by Giants ownership, the mood has changed.

Florio cited contradicting comments from co-owner John Mara, who initially supported both Daboll and GM Joe Schoen, then subsequently acknowledged that he was "running out of patience."

According to ClutchPoints, the Giants ended up in 2024 with a losing record, and with the NFC East still one of the league's most difficult divisions, expectations can be unrealistic considering the team's present roster. Florio said that Daboll's situation is a "mixed message."

"They need plenty of help from a talent standpoint. Mara should give his regime more time," he added.

Alas, mixed messaging tends to be a sign of uncertain leadership. And in a league where results count, time is never something to spare.

With this report about the NFL coaching hot seat, Daboll and McDaniel should stand out really well, or else—you know the drill.
