Michigan associate head coach Biff Poggi has been named interim head coach of the Wolverines for the next two games while Sherrone Moore is suspended. This follows the NCAA's decision in Michigan's advance-scouting case.

Biff Poggi Takes Interim Job at Michigan

Poggi, the former head coach at Charlotte, will assume the reins for Michigan's next two contests: a game against Central Michigan this weekend and another against Nebraska on Sept. 20. As an experienced coach, Poggi is filling in where Moore left off, by assumption, during his suspension.

Suspension Details for Sherrone Moore

Sherrone Moore, who will miss these crucial games, is suspended because of the NCAA's decision regarding Michigan's advance-scouting infractions. In contrast to the previous head coach, Jim Harbaugh of Michigan, whose suspension only affected game days, Moore's suspension is more in-depth. It will disallow him from attending both practices and teamwork until it ends.

Nevertheless, he can coach Michigan through this week's practice before officially starting the suspension on Saturday at midnight.

Moore is expected to return to his coaching responsibilities ahead of Michigan's Oct. 4 matchup against Wisconsin, with plenty of time for him to rejoin the squad and get back into his normal duties.

Michigan Wolverines' Recent Struggles

The No. 23-ranked Michigan Wolverines are reeling from a disappointing 24-13 loss to Oklahoma. The loss has put added pressure on the performance of the team, and Poggi will play an important role in keeping the Wolverines on the right track through this suspension period.

NCAA's Additional Suspension for Moore

In addition to his suspension for the upcoming games, Moore will also miss Michigan's 2026 season opener against Western Michigan, according to ESPN. This will be scheduled to take place in Frankfurt, Germany. That will be up to Poggi to fill this gap.
