Every time Jake Paul gets in the ring, fans are always curious who will be his next opponent. Unexpectedly, his next big test will come sooner.

The YouTube-turned-boxing star is finalizing a deal to fight former heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua, a fight that caught many fans off guard.

According to HypeBeast, the showdown represents a dramatic jump for Paul, who had been lined up to face lightweight star Gervonta Davis before that fight was canceled. Davis has typically fought at 135 pounds, while Joshua has weighed in at over 250 pounds in each of his last five fights-a difference of more than 100 pounds.

Paul, 28, typically fights in the cruiserweight division, where the maximum weight limit is 200 pounds, but he is no stranger to stepping up in size. He fought heavyweight legend Mike Tyson back in 2024 and weighed 227 pounds en route to securing a unanimous decision win. Joshua stands 6-foot-6 and is fully five inches taller than Paul, who checks in at 6-foot-1.

Anthony Joshua's Legacy and Recent Struggles

At 36, Joshua remains one of boxing's most recognizable figures. According to USA Today, the two-time unified world heavyweight champion dominated the division between 2017 and 2021 with wins over Wladimir Klitschko and Joseph Parker. Yet, consistency in recent years has eluded the British powerhouse.

In September 2024, Joshua was surprisingly stopped in the fifth round by Daniel Dubois, dropping to the canvas four times in that fight. Although his record is impressive, with 28 wins and 25 knockouts, fans wonder if his durability and focus are still unmatched.

Before that loss, Joshua had strung together four straight victories, including a ferocious knockout of former UFC champion Francis Ngannou. But the defeat to Dubois put up a reminder that even the most elite heavyweights can fall.

Ngannou said earlier this month that fighting Jake Paul "won't make any sense" to him.

Jake Paul's Meteoric Rise in Boxing

Since turning pro in 2020, Jake Paul has silenced his doubters after some in the boxing world thought of him as a social media stunt. With an impressive record of 12-1 and seven knockouts under his belt, he has gained credibility for at least competing against legit opponents, including the unanimous decision win over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in June. He lost to Tommy Fury in 2023, but since then, Paul has won six straight.

While there aren't any of the world-class names that define Joshua's career on his résumé, Paul's power, discipline, and relentless self-promotion have turned him into a legitimate pay-per-view draw.
