Shooting Outside High-End Manhattan Restaurant

Authorities say the shooting occurred about 2:00 a.m. local time outside Sei Less, a popular upscale restaurant in midtown Manhattan. Police responding to a 911 call found the victim with a gunshot wound. The NYPD did not release Boyd's name at first, but his identity was later confirmed by a Jets spokesman.

According to the BBC, the police investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made thus far. Detectives are still examining security footage and speaking to eyewitnesses in attempt to identify the suspect.

Jets Issue Statement as NFL Community Reacts

The New York Jets released a short statement acknowledging the incident:

"We are aware of the situation regarding Kris Boyd and will have no further comment at this time," the organization told The New York Post.

Boyd joined the Jets this offseason but has not played this year because of a shoulder injury that put him on injured reserve in August. Even while he remained off the field, he was an important factor in the team's defense and its locker room dynamic.

Support is flooding in from across the NFL from players and fans alike. Jets linebacker Jermaine Johnson wrote a heartfelt message on X, asking for prayers and strength for his teammate.

Similar sentiments have been expressed by fans online, deluging social media with hopes and encouragement for Boyd's recovery.

Before New York, Boyd assembled a sterling résumé in the NFL with several teams. His career includes the following:

  • Four seasons with the Minnesota Vikings
  • One season with the Arizona Cardinals
  • Two seasons with the Houston Texans
