Russell Wilson Contract Talks Crisis? Quarterback, Seahawks 'Tens of Millions' Apart? [VIDEO]

Perhaps the Texas Rangers can hold their breath over Russell Wilson.

NFL.com, taking information from an ESPN radio station report, indicated that contract talks between the quarterback and the Seattle Seahawks have made virtually no progress and that the sides are "tens of millions" of dollars apart.

Seahawks GM John Schneider won't discuss "sticky" nature of contract talks with Russell Wilson

Danny O'Neil of ESPN 710 in Seattle put a figure of a $120 million contract with half guaranteed but it's unclear as to who's putting that offer out there because he says neither side is close to agreeing to that extension.

"In fact, the Seahawks haven't put $100 million on the table right now," O'Neil said, citing various league sources familiar with negotiations. "The offer of a four-year extension is believed to be worth closer to $80 million."

Seahawks willing to walk away from Russell Wilson if his contract demands are too high?

The Seahawks do not yet believe Wilson is in the class of Aaron Rogers or even Ben Roethlisberger and would like to pay their quarterback a salary more in line with that of the Cincinnati Bengals' Andy Dalton or the San Francisco 49ers' Colin Kaepernick.

Wilson has led the Seahawks to the playoffs in each of his first three seasons and pushed the team to a Super Bowl championship during the 2013 season against the Denver Broncos.

But Seahawks general manager John Schneider already has insisted that the team will not mortgage their future for any one player. Seattle is caught in a salary dilemma, according to NFL.com over a quarterback that has more wins in his first three seasons than any other NFL signal caller ever in his first three seasons.

"So is that the product of a heady quarterback, or a solid quarterback who has benefited from an excellent team around him?" NFL.com asks. "Remember, Seattle has had tons of flexibility because of Wilson's third-round pick salary."

Wilson indicated last month that he has an itch to try his hand at baseball after going through his second training camp with the Rangers, who currently own his rights. Some pundits believe Wilson is using baseball as a ploy to get more money out of the Seahawks, although Wilson denies that to be the case.

The nature of Wilson's football position makes it more unlikely that he would try both sports simultaneously, but if the Seahawks play hardball, Wilson does have baseball as an option to fall back on.
