WWE legend Trish Stratus is stepping back into the spotlight as she prepares to compete at Evolution on July 13. The winner of her upcoming championship match with Tiffany Stratton will go up against Jade Cargill for the WWE Women's Championship at SummerSlam, WWE's biggest event of the summer.
Cargill earned her title shot by winning the Queen of the Ring tournament at Night of Champions, and now the gauntlet is laid out for her next opponent to be announced. But not everyone is happy about how Stratus' return was booked.
Tommy Dreamer Criticizes Stratus' Booking
Wrestling veteran and ECW legend Tommy Dreamer expressed his frustrations on the "Busted Open" podcast. He was blaming WWE for providing Stratus with what he considers an underwhelming build to a world title storyline.
"I think Trish Stratus deserves more than a week build to go after the world title, and I felt that entire segment felt flat just because nobody was really saying anything. It was just, 'Hey, well, this person got this, and this person got that,' and also from both Tiffany and Jade, I felt like both are kinda heel-ish, and they're supposed to be babyfaces."
Dreamer also criticized the character dynamics between Cargill and Stratton, saying that they are both supposed to be babyfaces but portrayed heelish during the segment.
Trish Stratus Looks Back at Her Favorite Match
Stratus, a WWE Hall of Famer and one of the original women's wrestling stars has had her fair share of legendary feuds in her career, including with Lita, Molly Holly, and Mickie James.
Asked about her favorite match, she referred to her timeless contest with James at WrestleMania 22, according to TJR Wrestling. The 49-year-old said that she and James were proud of that unforgettable storyline.
The bout remains remembered as a standard for women's wrestling, bringing together great storytelling with exceptional in-ring work.
Stratus' Recent WWE Activity
In her last WWE match, Trish Stratus partnered with up-and-comer Tiffany Stratton to battle Nia Jax and Candice LeRae. Stratus and Stratton won, and the outing indicated that Stratus had much more in the tank.
Now, with WWE Evolution looming in the horizon, she's preparing to face what could be a career-defining moment. A win would put her back in the title picture and prime her for a SummerSlam showdown against Jade Cargill in a blockbuster match.
