AJ Lee's last WWE match was on March 30, 2015, when she beat the Bella Twins and Natalya in a six-woman tag team match with Naomi and Paige. Since then, we haven't heard a word yet about her next appearance.
Following a dramatic end to WWE Clash in Paris, fans speculate that the WWE superstar will likely return to the wrestling industry after over a decade.
AJ Lee's Name Resurfaces in WWE Storylines
AJ Lee, whose real name is April Mendez, has kept mostly out of the spotlight since retiring in 2015. Aside from WWE, her greatest association with the squared circle was through acting, most prominent being her appearance as Elle Dorado in Showtime's Heels.
According to SI's The Takedown, that came to an end in Paris when CM Punk, Lee's husband, was stripped of the World Heavyweight Championship following interference from Becky Lynch, who landed a surprise low blow.
The feud was further personalized as Seth Rollins yelled insults at Punk and his "stupid family. This instantly heightened rumors that AJ Lee might be written back into WWE programming.
Fans Bring Up Return Rumors Online
The moment became more buzz-worthy when CM Punk pulled down a fan's sign that said, "Bring Back AJ Lee." The action, along with Jackie Redmond and Big E's post-show ramblings, fueled speculations about her potential return.

Social media went crazy through this sequence, with fans questioning whether the segment was a setup to toy with AJ Lee's return.
According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, WWE officials have recently mentioned AJ Lee in multiple creative pitches. While nothing is confirmed, sources indicated there has been more traction on her name in recent months than at any point since her retirement.
Jon Alba of The Takedown also confirmed that Lee's name has been actively discussed during WWE creative meetings.
Why Now Could Be the Right Time
For years, AJ Lee allegedly had little desire to come back to wrestling. Nevertheless, her impact on women's wrestling cannot be disputed, as she inspired a whole generation of stars. Present-day WWE talent, fans, and even her husband have clamored for her return.
One WWE insider spoke with Fightful that if Lee came back, there are a few issues with her time out of the ring. The source noted that AJ Lee still "looks like she just left TV" and referenced CM Punk's own comeback after years off as evidence that the return is possible.
Wrestlepalooza Could Be Her Comeback Moment
The timing of all these rumors is not coincidental. WWE is gearing up for its next Premium Live Event, Wrestlepalooza, which will be the company's first event to air on ESPN's DTC platform. Returning AJ Lee would make huge waves and provide WWE with a headline moment to build the event.
There is no doubt that this will be the craziest comeback we have yet to see this year.
