Russell Wilson is the running Santa Claus for the Seattle Seahawks.
With only one catch to receive a bonus, Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson broke the coach's original play. He devised his strategy to secure wide receiver teammate David Moore a $100,000 performance bonus.
Russell Wilson Changed Play for David Moore
David Moore underperformed throughout the whole game, but the crucial throw from Wilson made his day brighter. Wilson said that it was not what coach Pete Caroll commanded, but he did the late-game pass for Moore's sake.
The 25-year-old receiver was only one reception away from meeting his contract bonus. He already had 34, but the game saw three more dominant receivers, D.K. Metcalf, Chris Carson, and Tyler Lockett, who were way ahead of him in receptions.
It was when Russell Wilson padded a chance to reverse the play with the Seahawks in front of San Francisco 49ers at 26-23. Moore was running out of time to notch his 35th reception in the dying seconds of the game. With only 30 seconds in the last quarter, Wilson bombed an end-game pass to Moore to secure his bonus.
The original play should have ended with the Seahawks wasting time through running. Coach Pete Carroll was puzzling over what happened in the last sequence of action.
Wilson told Seahawks reporter John Boyle that the situation came about after Austin Davis, the quarterbacks' coach, agreed to the decision. The plan to kneel away was shoved to the side.
"We were going to kneel it, and then we ended up changing it. Austin and I had talked on the sideline earlier about trying to find a way to get it done," Wilson said.

Wilson added that coach Davis told him to get things 'done' and immediately upon the call. The Ohio-born player noted the reminder, and he just winked at his coach with the agreement of the change of play.
"We called that play because David had $100,000 if he gets that catch. It's a blessing to be able to help his family, his daughter, and all that stuff. So we wanted to get him that catch, and we were able to dial that up for him that last play," Wilson ended.
On the same day, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers shared a similar script with the Seahawks after Tom Brady did the same thing.
Brady called three late-game shovel passes to Bucs' wide receiver Antonio Brown for his contract bonus. Antonio Brown received a $250,000 bonus. A total of 11 receptions was produced by Brown after the game in Buccaneers' crushing 44-27 win over the Atlanta Falcons.
On January 10, the Seattle Seahawks will face the Los Angeles Rams for the NFL Wildcard Round.
The Seahawks now lead the NFC West at 12-4 while the Rams trailed behind them at 10-6. Their win against the 49ers was their fourth straight after their three other victories over the Rams, Washington football team, and New York Jets.
Their win streak began after they lost to the New York Giants in early December.
